Obradoiro Talks: Medical Research

Obradoiro Talks: Medical Research

Our High School students recently attended a conference, within the Obradoiro Talks series, offered by the San Rafael Foundation, with the aim of introducing our students to scientific research, specifically in the health field.
The talk is part of the "Investiga San Rafael" program, organized by the San Rafael Foundation. The main objective is to introduce high school students to the world of scientific research, particularly in the health area, to encourage students to become interested in science and research. The conference allows our students to approach the reality of a research career today from the perspective of researchers, so that students can form a more realistic and updated idea of the different research options.
Dr. Angélica Figueroa Conde-Valvís, the principal investigator of the Epithelial Plasticity and Metastasis group at the Biomedical Research Institute of A Coruña (Inibic), explained to the students the importance of research for society, especially in health issues such as cancer. Subsequently, Macarena Quiroga, a member of the same research group who is about to present her doctoral thesis, explained her professional career and how she decided to pursue research. She also explained the different opportunities that exist within a research career and how it is becoming increasingly multidisciplinary.
